NavLink iOS App adds Portugal Charts

NavLink HD is Digital Yacht’s popular iPhone/iPad charting and navigation app. The app is free and you simply purchase chart regions of your choice from within the app. This means you can try before you buy (a sample chart is included) and you only pay for charts you need. We’ve detailed charts for UK and US, France, Spain, Germany, Denmark, Croatia, Netehrlands and Benelux. We’ve now added 77 detailed charts covering Portugal, the Azores and Madeira as detailed below. Portugal with its long, beautiful coastline is an increasingly popular, accessible and affordable sailing destination.

Cost for the chart set is just £19.99 and NavLink handles real time navigation too with routes, waypoints, navigation displays, AIS and instrument overlays. Most importantly, the charts are all based on official hydrographic office data and updates are included in the subscription for 1 year. After that, charts are yours to keep or you can subscribe again for further updates meaning you’ll always have the latest data from official sources.

NavLink is also compatible with Digital Yacht’s NMEA to wifi gateways so your boat AIS and GPS navigation data can be utilised by the app. Having live GPS data from the boat’s system is much better than the internal GPS on the mobile device and of course doesn’t rely on an internet connection. Adding AIS brings live, real time data as an overlay with drill down vessel data and even vessel scaling on the chart.

Of course, there are many other popular charting apps such as Navionics, AquaMap, Imray, Weather 4D, TZ iBoat etc and each offers their own unique feature or function. Our NMEA to wifi gateways are compatible with all of them. The beauty of iPad navigation is that you can affordably utilise multiple apps and chart types to suit your current needs. With a dedicated chart plotter, it’s a new piece of hardware required so tablet navigation makes a lot of sense
