We’re seeing lots of applications for AIS on drones, UAVs and also satellites or aircraft. Most users and solutions are requiring an exceptional AIS receiver to feed into data aggregation and navigation systems for ariel surveillance or ship tracking.

AIS uses VHF frequencies for transmission so it’s based on line-of-sight communication which would be typically 20-30NM max in a maritime ship-ship or ship-shore environment.
However, at altitude the range increases exponentially as the sea surface view from a drone or aircraft is much larger. That means for the best results, an exceptional, fast and sensitive receiver is required using true dual channel reception and not a multiplexed receiver design which will drop targets as it can’t process quick enough.
Our AIS100 range has been the choice for many applications offering exceptional price and performance in a commercial of the shelf system. It’s available in NMEA (RS422/RS232) and USB variants.
We can also supply a special “dry build” without the normal encapsulation in an enclosure so manufacturers can take advantage of the ultra light 21g main PCB – exceptional performance and just a 21g payload!
