CLA1000 Fault Finding Guide

CLA1000 Bundle HR

Despite our popular CLA1000 Class A transponder being predominately fitted to commercial ships by experienced electronic installers, an increasing number are being fitted to pleasure craft and are often installed by the boat’s owner or an installer who has never fitted a Class A transponder before.

Installation is pretty straight forward, but there are a number of steps and procedures to follow:-

  • Mechanical Installation
  • Power Connections
  • GPS antenna installation
  • VHF Antenna installation
  • Interfacing*
  • Configuration via the supplied configAIS program

*Many CLA1000 units are interfaced to our HSC100, USB to NMEA Adaptor cable, Pilot Plug or PilotLink units.

Things do not always go to plan and with this in mind, we have released a Fault Finding Guide to help users, new to Class A transponders, work out what is wrong. To download a copy of our AIS Class A Transponder Fault Finding Guide, click here.

Re-Configuring an HSC100

Our popular HSC100 compass sensor comes in two versions; the original HSC100 and the newer HSC100T which outputs HDT and ROT for Class A Transponders.

In some installations, it is necessary to re-configure the HSC100 to output a different format of compass heading sentence or to change the damping on the HSC100T to get a more stable output.

To make this process easier, Digital Yacht have created a new Tech Note that gives a step by step guide on how this can be done. Click here to download the new Tech Note.

In order to carry out this re-configuration, you will need to also download a copy of Tera Term which is a great (free) terminal program that every engineer or enthusiast should have a copy of.  We use it all of the time at Digital Yacht and you will find it referred to in a lot of our Tech Notes. Class A AIS Package For Workboats and Other Commercial Vessels

Class A AIS transponders are frequently being installed on smaller vessels who want the security and performance of a Class A transponder.  Digital Deep Sea have created a Class A package which includes all the antennas and a heading sensor and pilot plug cable.  The HSC100 compass sensor is custom programmed to output heading and rate of turn data which is then transmitted by the Class A transponder.  The bundle pack comes with SmarterTrack Lite PC software which also allows a PC to program the Class A transponder with voyage data.  The new bundle has a list price of £2000 plus vat and is available now.
