NMEA 2000 has become the industry choice for interconnecting and interfacing on board electronics and as all the major brands have embraced the standard which is run by the industry body National Marine Electronics Association, it allows connectivity across multiple systems and brands. The network is based on CanBus standards (as used in automotive and industrial systems) so requires a simple but defined cabling network for devices to interconnect. A simple, rugged and universal 5 pin connector is used for data transfer.
Digital Yacht have added more cables and accessories to their NMEA 2000 product line with a simple offering where just 6 products will now offer the ability to build a NMEA 2000 network to suit 99.9% of installations. All components use certified, waterproof, NMEA 2000 metal connectors and top quality shielded cable for maximum network reliability. They are universal and work with all major brands.
Digital Yacht’s NMEA 2000 Starter Kit has always been an easy way to build a basic network for any brand of modern marine electronics. It comprises a 6 way NMEA 2000 T piece, power cable, terminators and a 1m drop cable allowing up to 3 devices to interconnect and create a basic NMEA 2000 network.
Digital Yacht have now added additional T pieces and 1m, 3m and 6m cables to the range to allow system expansion. Cables can be interlinked for extended lengths and for DIY installers, they have produced a handy guide explaining the basics of NMEA 2000 and the do’s and don’ts.
